PAGASA flags monsoon and thunderstorm conditions

The Philippine weather agency PAGASA included Palawan in a rain advisory on Wednesday, 7 July, warning residents of scattered rains and thunderstorms linked to the southwest monsoon (habagat) and a trough of a low-pressure area. Official feeds also flagged an outlook for heavy rainfall in parts of the province.
PAGASA’s bulletin said the habagat and the trough are expected to bring cloudy skies with intermittent rain and thunder across Palawan, including the Kalayaan Islands. The agency advised the public to expect periodic downpours and possible localized flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Local disaster management officials urged communities to take standard precautions: secure loose outdoor items, clear drainage where possible, avoid driving through flooded roads, and move to higher ground when water levels rise. No mandatory evacuation orders were reported in the available bulletins at the time of writing.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has prepositioned relief supplies across Palawan ahead of the expected bad weather. According to regional reports, the agency staged 87,615 food packs across the province to support areas that could be cut off or affected by heavy rains and flooding.
Provincial and municipal offices were asked to monitor rivers and coastal waters, and to coordinate with barangay officials for early warnings and possible relief operations. Residents in mountain and upland communities, where landslides can occur after prolonged rain, were reminded to stay alert to advisories from local authorities.
